Abstract
In previous studies, we experienced that the survival rate was 100% in four patientstreated by administration of Korean Codonopsis lanceolata concentrates with adenocarcinoma of stomach, adenocarcinoma of colon, renal cell carcinoma of kidney and squamous cell carcinoma of bronchus, In the present study, we have investigated the effect of Korean Codonopsis lanceolata concentrates on the countings of total WBC, total lymphocytes and natural killer cells in healthy adults whole blood after oral administration of the concentrates. Pretreatment analysis of peripheral blood from 4 healthy adults revealed ; the counts of WBC, lymphocytes and NK cell fall in normal ranges of 6575/§¡, 2082/§¡ and 257/§¡, respectively. After oral administration of Korean Codonopsis lanceolata concentrates, total WBC counts were slightly increased. But total lymphocyte counts were quite highly increased to 150.7% of preadministration count. The rates of increase in NK cells after treatment was 50.2% at third week and 120.0% at fifth week. These results indicate that Korean Codonopsis lanceolata concentrates could have affected the immune system, especially NK cell activity in persons.
